I started my ophthalmology practice to care for patients in a respectful and sincere way. I love helping my patients see better, empowering them to take control of their health, and caring for them like family. I welcome patients’ input and participation in their treatment.
I am a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist. I am experienced in Laser Cataract Surgery, LASIK/PRK, Glaucoma and General Eye Exams. I hold many industry certifications pertaining to those. I am on the active medical staff at the Department of Ophthalmology, St. Vincent’s Southside Hospital. I gained my ophthalmology experience working with the U.S. Navy at NAS Jacksonville, the University of Florida, and Shands Hospital in Gainesville. I have practiced ophthalmology in the Jacksonville area for the last 16 years, where I live with my husband, son and two dogs.
My education started by earning an International Baccalaureate diploma and graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Florida. I was awarded my Doctor of Medicine with Honors from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. While in medical school, I was nominated for membership to Alpha Omega Alpha, a national honor society. I also earned the HM Hill Scholarship, a merit-based award. I was accepted for internship at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine in 2001. My post graduate studies continued at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where I spend most of my time learning the techniques of advanced cataract, refractive surgery, and treatment of glaucoma.
I am an active member of several organizations including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Florida Medical Society, Florida Society of Ophthalmology, and Duval County Medical Society. I continue to be actively involved in ophthalmology research on cataracts, and effects of systemic medications on cataract formation. I have also been an investigator in studies on diabetic and drug induced retinopathy. I am excited that you are considering my practice. My team is ready to care for you in a relaxed and personalized way. Welcome to Champion Eye.
I am a board-certified optometric physician, who is originally from Toronto, Canada and completed my Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston. Prior to this, I completed a B.Sc in psychology at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, then went overseas to the UK where I received a dual degree of B.Sc in Optometry with honors, as well as a Masters in Criminology at the prestigious Cardiff University in Wales, UK.
My professional training and experiences include numerous health care and surgical clinics throughout the east coast and the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Haven, CT, where I developed a strong interest and expertise in low vision rehabilitation as well as ocular disease. In our clinic, I will be providing comprehensive eye examinations, diabetic eye examinations, glaucoma management, ocular disease, dry eye management, and pre and post op care and management.
I enjoy humanitarian services, which include volunteered eye care in Nairobi, Kenya, with ongoing efforts there and within the USA. I am a member of the Florida Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH).
My philosophy of care is focused on engaging and educating patients to be involved in their own medical decision making. I work with patients to provide a comprehensive understanding of their ocular health and am eager to cultivate a relationship where questions may be asked and answered in a welcoming, professional, and relaxed setting.
Dr. Champion and I have worked alongside each other for 7+ years, and we share a vision and passion for ocular health for our patients. We look forward to welcoming you to our Champion Eyecare family.
